Tyrolean Oberland
The Tyrolean Oberland, as the region between the legendary Pontlatzer Bridge and the border fortress of Altfinstermuenz is called, is one of the prettiest sections of the Via Claudia Augusta, with impressive village with Rhaeto-Romanic centres such as Pruzt and Pfunds, tourist centres such as Ried, Serfaus, Fiss, Ladis and Nauders and lovely small hamlets.
The Tyrolean Oberland with places such as Kaunertal, Feichten Kauns, Prutz Faggen, Fendels, Ried, Toesens Pfunds and Spiss, is located south of the county’s capital Landeck along the Via Claudia Augusta towards the Reschenpass on the border to South Tyrol. You can spend the most fantastic holiday here – in summer and winter. You can find wonderful destinations and adventures for discovering land, people and culture in the heart of three countries - Austria, Switzerland and Italy. The Romans built the only imperial state road via the Alps - the Via Claudia Augusta - almost 2000 years ago. It reached from the port in Altinum near Venice via the Reschenpass, Landeck, Imst, Fernpass and Reutte up to Augsburg and was for centuries the most important north-south connection. This important traffic artery and the connected business opportunities, meetings and exchange with travellers from many countries also encouraged the development of the region across the centuries and still shapes the people and their culture today.
